Markus is an economist and survey researcher with broad research interests spanning labour and health economics, economic inequality, social policy, gambling, and survey methodology. He is an associate editor for the Australian Journal of Social Issues (AJSI), a member of the advisory committee of the Australian Survey of Social Attitudes (AuSSA), and the Australian representative of the Asia-Pacific chapter of the World Association for Public Opinion Research (WAPOR). He is also a Fellow of ANU's Tax and Transfer Policy Institute.
