10th Biennial ACSPRI Social Science Methodology Conference in conjunction with the Australian Social Network Analysis Conference (ASNAC)

ACSPRI is pleased to host the 10th Biennial Social Science Methodology conference, in conjunction with the Australian Social Network Analysis Conference (ASNAC). The ACSPRI conference is multi-disciplinary and brings together researchers and methodologists from a range of environments and contexts. By running the ACSPRI and ASNAC in conjunction in 2026, all attendees will benefit from being able to share their methodology knowledge across domains. SNA related proposals will be reviewed by ASNAC representatives.

Conference topics and themes include:

  • Multi-method and mixed methods research
  • Longitudinal data analysis
  • Arts-based research
  • Ethnographic approaches
  • Cognitive testing / cognitive interviews
  • The use of administrative data for social and political research
  • Tools for data visualisation
  • Social Network Analysis
  • Panel studies
  • Data dissemination and use of secondary data
  • Dataset specific sessions (e.g. AuSSA, HILDA, AES)
  • Social media network and text analysis
  • Computational social science

There will be four types of presentations:

  1. Papers / presentations where an abstract is reviewed (abstract in the conference proceedings).
  2. Short videos (under 5 minutes) - including a student short video competition (abstract in the conference proceedings).
  3. Posters - including a student poster competition (abstract in the conference proceedings).
  4. Workshops - 90 or 180 minute workshops.

Timeline / Deadlines

  • March 2026: Conference announcement and call for session convenors
  • May/June 2026: Call for proposals
  • 17 August 2026: Earlybird registration open
  • 18 September 2026: Proposal submission closes
  • 2 October 2026: Notification of proposal acceptance
  • 11 October 2026: Earlybird registration closes
  • 13 November 2026: Final date for submission of short videos
  • 24 November 2026: Conference opens

Student short video and poster competition

  • To be eligible to enter students must have their short video or poster abstracts accepted for the conference. Each abstract should articulate your project/thesis research question and the method(s) you employ to address this.
  • A prize will be awarded based on:
    • The ability to succinctly present the research question and method.
    • The content of the video/poster presentation.
    • The quality of the visuals.
  • The ACSPRI Executive Committee will judge the short videos and posters.
  • The prize is a voucher to attend an ACSPRI course (valued at up to $2,120.00 *Early bird member rate)
  • Short video and poster presenters must be currently enrolled students at an ACSPRI member institution.
  • Students interested in having their posters / videos considered for the Short Video Competition must:
    • Submit an abstract by 18 September 2026
    • Indicate they would like to be considered for the prize in the submission
    • Register for the conference by the early bird deadline of 11 October 2026
    • Self produce a video in a web ready format or a printed poster
    • If your abstract is accepted, your final video must be submitted by 13 November 2026
    • All videos / posters will be published on the conference website. The winner will be announced during the conference. Note: to have a video / poster displayed on the conference website you must register and attend the conference.
  • All students are eligible for the student video / poster competition, including those that present a paper during a session, but this might be of special interest to those starting on a research project where ideas may not be developed enough for a full conference presentation.

Physical and online attendance

The 2026 Conference will be a primarily physical attendance conference. We will make sessions and plenary/keynote sessions available to stream live via Zoom for those who wish to view proceedings remotely. Those who wish to present at the conference will be expected to present physically at the conference venue. There may be exceptions to this with the support and agreement of the session chair. Registration

Conference registration includes attendance at workshops and sessions, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea, conference printed materials, and a conference welcome reception. Please note all presenters must register for the conference to appear in the program.
